Hops
I was excited to get some cascade hop rhyzomes from a friend and immediatly planted them in one of my boxes today. I am now sipping on a glass of Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA. What a great way to celebrate spring. This week I also started some seeds for herbs and marigolds.

Starting my 2011 garden
Today was a beautiful day so I opened up the shed, pulled out my garden tools and started prepping my garden for planting. The biggest project was yanking out some bushes on the side of the house to make way for an experimental kitchen garden which will consist of cut flowers and some vegetables. I have my 3 4X4 boxes for vegetables and 1 4X4 box for hops and herbs. I haven't quite decided what to do with the area on the side of the shed. I know that sooner or later I'll build a longer box where I'll keep my herbs. I'm planning on starting most everything from seed. I have a tray with a variety of vegetables and herbs going in the house and planted some cold weather veggies in one of my boxes including swiss chard, spinach, lettuce, beets, and peas.
